Yvonne Schaffler

Yvonne Schaffler, PhD, is an anthropologist and a *psychotherapist in training under supervision* who is interested in the interaction of sociocultural, mental and bodily processes. This means, for instance, the ways in which a local social world gives significance and meaning to sensation, whether mental or bodily, and the behavioural practices (such as psychotherapy or local interventions) that may affect sensation. In former research projects, funded by the Austrian National Bank and the Austrian Science Fund (FWF), among others, she has dealt with the production of ethnographic films and research topics such as idioms of distress, trauma/dissociation, as well as with the psychological effects of war, torture and forced migration. She teaches subjects related to public health, qualitative research methods and aspects of interculturality in healthcare.
